In 2014 Mogilev region discloses the names of 340 buried soldiers

In 2014 Mogilev region disclosed the names of 340 buried soldiers. The information is provided by Victor Bubentsov, chief specialist of the regional office for ideology work and youth’s policy.

Those who died for the liberty of Motherland deserve to be remembered. At the same time it is very difficult to state the destiny of each soldier. This work is done by research groups, specialists of the corresponding subdivisions of the regional and district executive committees, military registration and enlistment offices, archives, museums, libraries, public organizations and mass media. Assistance of local population is also of great importance. Due to the information of the region’s residents last year the 52nd specialized search battalion of the Armed Forces of Belarus exhumed remains of 52 Soviet soldiers in Chausy and Bykhov districts. 2 unknown burial places were passportized in Belynichi district. 8 names of the soldiers who died or missed during the Great Patriotic War were disclosed.

According to the specialist, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from the fascists the region allotted over Br10 b to put in order the military fame places and to safe the memory of Motherland’s defenders. 56 burial places and monument signs were repaired, 771 – restored, 34 new ones were erected. The monument signs appeared over common graves in Timonovo village, Borisovichi village, Vysokaya Buda village (Klimovichi district). Gory Agritownship (Gorki district) opened the monument sign to Maria Tsygankova whose 6 sons did not return from the war. Klichev opened a monument sign with a memorial plaque on the site of shooting of the civilian population. The city also got a khachkar to Armenian soldiers who liberated the city. It also got a monument-bust to major general Mikhail Romanov. Bobruisk opened a sculpture composition “To victims of fascism”.

This year will continue the work in this direction. Mogilev will open the bust to colonel Semyon Kutepov in the street bearing his name. By May 9 the city will hold reconstruction works of the memorial complex in Smidt Avenue.

There are 1,563 soldiers’ burial places in Mogilev region. There over 325 thousand soldiers were buried. The number includes about 323.6 thousand participants of the Great Patriotic War, 1.6 thousand civilians and participants of other wars, participants of 114 local wars. 2014 passportized 12 unrecorded burial places in Belynichi, Krasnopoliye, Kostyukovichi, Mstislavl, Osipovichi and Slavgorod districts.
