In 2014 Mogilev region sets a course for increase in exports and modernisation

In 2014 Mogilev region should set a course for increase in exports, production modernisation and clear-outs of stock reserves. The objectives have been set by the chairman of Mogilev region executive committee Petr Rudnik at today's sitting dedicated to summing up the results of the previous year.

"Our main objective is to export as much production as possible and to earn the currency that both the region and the country need for further development, promoting economy's modernisation, implementing investment and social programmes", the governor stressed. "Special attention must be paid to clearing out stock reserves and decreasing debit indebtedness".

Last year's exports made up 100.9%, thus the region showed its best. As a result, the region reached significant positive balance of foreign trade of $625 mln. At the same time, the region's gross product made up 97.8% comparing with that of the previous year. This was the republic's lowest result. The rates having been set for industrial output, construction sphere, transport and communications enterprises weren't reached, and this happened to be the major reason of the low gross product.

The real sector of economy also showed worse qualitative results: the profit decreased, as well as sales margins, while the number of loss-making enterprises increased. The tendency was followed in the first month of the current year. "The region's economic development is a matter of a serious concern, and urges taking speedy measures to improve the situation. The chairmen of the district executive committees and heads of enterprises will bear personal responsibility for accomplishing the identified goals. By the end of the first four months of the year the region must at least reach rate of last year's gross product", the governor urged.

Much attention must be paid to attracting direct foreign investments, completing technical re-equipment of industrial enterprises, increasing competitiveness of goods, including import-substituting ones, and diversifying the markets. Besides, we must practice austerity and rational use of the resources available, the governor stressed.

Mogilev region executive committee's head also urged to tighten supervision over timely wage payments and transfers to social funds. "Heads of enterprises holding back wages will be seriously sanctioned, up to depriving of office, in spite of all previous merits", Petr Rudnik warned.
