Around 7% of the total number of eligible voters have come to the ballot boxes on September 24 to vote early in the election to the Chamber of Representatives of the Parliament of Belarus.
According to Nikolai Lozovik, Secretary of the Central Election Commission of Belarus, 6.5% of the eligible electorate votes in Brest, 8.3% in Vitebsk, Gomel – 7.7%, Mogilev – 7.3%, Minsk Region – 7.5%, City of Minsk – 7.3%.
Over 6,400 voting stations all over Belarus operate 10:00-14:00 and 16:00-19:00 in the wait for early voters, the Central Electoral Commission told Interfax-West.
Those wishing to vote early do not have to have an officially verified excuse to cast their ballots on days other than Sunday, September 28.
In the 2004 parliamentary election 17.6% of the electorate took part in the early vote, including 23% in Minsk.
There are around 270 contenders competing for 110 seats in the lower chamber of Belarus’ parliament.
