Ammonia leakage at OJSC “Bobruisk meat-packing plant”

A report on ammonia leakage at OJSC “Bobruisk meat-packing plant” was received by Bobruisk Town Department of Emergency Situations on March, 1. Twelve fire-fighting vehicles, as well as ambulance cars and Bobruisk centre of hygiene and epidemiology laboratory were sent to the plant.

It was manometer of ammonia refrigerating machine receiver that happened to fall out; as a result 150 kg of ammonia leaked. 15 people were evacuated to a safety zone; the receiver was switched off. Limited visibility and piping complexity made it difficult to eliminate leakage after-effects. Nevertheless, the failure was liquidated, thus diffusion of virulent poisonous substances was prevented.
