«Antistereotypes of the elderly»

On the eve of the Elderly Day Mogilev Drama Theatre opens a photo exhibition «Antistereotypes of the elderly», - the correspondent of the site was told at the United Nations Population Fund in Belarus.

1 October is the International Day of the Elderly. According to specialists, aging of population has become a global phenomenon, being common for all countries of the world. During the recent years the number of the elderly in the world increases by 870 000 people per month. And this tendency should be taken into account while planning state and public programmes.

The photo exhibition «Antistereotypes of the elderly» pictures the elderly above 60 years old. They stand out among their peers – they go in for sports, attend extreme side-shows, get married, hitch-hike, etc. The exhibition aims at challenging stereotypes of the elderly. They tell about themselves and their views on life beyond the 60 years border at the press-conference within the frameworks of the opening ceremony. One can also learn about the main tendencies of aging of Belarusian as well as of the world population, and the work done for the elderly in Mogilev region.
