President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko sends greetings to Belarusian and Russian people

The Chairman of the Supreme State Council of the Union State, President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko sent greetings to Belarusian and Russian people as the two countries celebrate the Day of Unity of Peoples of Belarus and Russia. The information was provided at the press-service of the Belarusian leader.

“The Day of Unity of Peoples of Belarus and Russia is a memorable date in our common history, it's a bright symbol of our brotherhood. The Union State relies on a solid foundation made of rich spiritual and cultural heritage, large-scale economic potential of cooperation, diversified interpersonal ties,” the message of greetings reads. "This year's holiday is special - it is celebrated at the point of the momentous date – the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Back then in the fierce battles the Soviet people protected the freedom and independence of their Homeland and liberated the whole Europe from the slavery imposed by fascists".

Alexander Lukashenko also said: “Joint efforts help us protect and promote the memory of the great achievements of the generation of victors. Together we are doing our best to prevent recent attempts to rewrite history and to diminish the importance of their unprecedented feat. The history has proved that only together we will be able to respond to any challenges and threats effectively. Today, when the international community is facing a number of conflicts and crises, our unity is of great importance.”

About 20 years have passed since the first integration treaty was signed. “At times it was a difficult but very fruitful period rich in good deeds. It is gratifying to emphasize that the Union State project has triggered other integration processes. For example, the Eurasian Economic Union started operating at the beginning of this year,” the President of Belarus remarked.

The head of state believes that the two countries understand that it is needed to promote the Union State project, and the main thing, to think about its prospects. "The indissoluble bonds of friendship, mutual trust and understanding will always be the main reference points for the Belarusians and Russians on the chosen path", the President assured.

The President wished peace, productive labour, accord and well-being, strong health and every success to everyone.
