Belarus has developed an efficient mechanism to prevent and combat human trafficking, Alexander Gavrilov of the Interior Ministry said during a workshop in Mogilev on Tuesday.
In his words, since 2002 Belarusian law enforcers have detected 12 criminal groups and 58 organisations involved in human trafficking. There have been registered three thousand victims of trade in humans, including 306 underage persons. 1,155 people have been convicted of human trafficking, and 386 were sent to jail.
The total number of human trafficking-related crimes that were registered in Belarus from 2000 to 2007 is 3,603. 1,151 of these involved export of Belarusian citizens.
