An additional agreement to supplement the current contract between OAO Beltransgaz and Gazprom of Russia on the price of Russian gas supply to Belarus in 2009 will be signed in the coming days, Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Semashko said in Minsk.
"The additional agreement to the contract with Gazprom will be signed in the coming days. It has been signed in fact, the principled decisions have been taken," he said. The agreement will be signed by January 30, he said.
Semashko refused to cite the gas supply price to Belarus in the first quarter. The annual average will stand at $148 per 1,000 cubic meters, as expected by the Belarusian side, he said.
Under the agreements reached, the additional agreement will drop the principle that gas price fluctuations for Belarus cannot exceed 7%, he said.
"This principle was correct when oil and gas prices changed smoothly," he said.
By late 2009, the gas price for Belarus can be lower than the gas supply price in 2008 ($127.9 per 1,000 cubic meters). "The specific price will depend on the oil price by the end of 2009. So far, our expectations are justified: the oil price remains on the level below $50 per one barrel," he said.
In 2009, the Russian gas supplies were agreed in the amount of 22.1 billion against 21.6 billion cubic meters in 2008.
