The Belarusian Economy Ministry forecasts that the country's trade deficit for goods and services will reach $3 billion in 2008, the Deputy Economic Minister, Tatyana Starchenko, said at a meeting with Belarusian Union of Entrepreneurs and Employers named after Professor Kunyavsky.
"For the year's end, we forecast $3 billion," Starchenko said when asked about the ministry's forecasts on the trade deficit for 2008.
As a result, the trade deficit will exceed 6% in relation to GDP, she said, adding that this figure came to 6.1% in 2007.
It was earlier reported that the Belarusian trade deficit in January-August increased 59.9% year-on-year to $2.098 billion.
An earlier forecast had the country's trade deficit for 2008 pegged at no more than $1.42 billion. Belarus' trade deficit for 2007 came to $2.685 billion.
