Belarusian classical music of the XX century will be performed at the Arts Festival "Mstislavl-2009" on June, 26. The festival is named after the National Artist of the Republic of Belarus Nikolai Churkin. The festival of music is a kind of a present by the National Concert Orchestra and is dedicated to the 140th anniversary of the composer.
Celebrating the composer's anniversary the National Concert Orchestra prepared a new concert program "Nikolai Churkin. Returning." The program is performed by a wind band playing the wooden instruments, a flute bands, a clarinet bands, the trumpet-players band "Intrada", a string quartet, a chamber orchestra.
According to the art leader of the festival, the National Artist of the Republic of Belarus, professor Mikhail Finberg, Mstislavl deserves to present the best artists of the national music art. It is here where in 1922 the first national opera "Osvobozhdenie Truda" by Nikolai Churkin appeared. It was Mstislavl land that inspired the composer, gave him creative impulse. Nikolai Churkin was born in Armenia and brought up in Russia but became a real classic of Belarusian music art, the founder of Belarusian composing school.
The organizers of the festival are the National Concert Orchestra, the Ministry of Culture of Belarus, Mogilev Regional Executive Committee, the Culture Office of Mogilev Region Administration, Mstislavl District Executive Committee. .
