Chinese investments to promote development of alternative power engineering in Mogilev region

Mogilev region intends to develop alternative power engineering with the help of Chinese investments. Mogilev region executive committee and China Nuclear Power Engineering Company (CNPEC) signed an agreement on cooperation on 21 March. The document was signed by Mogilev region Governor Petr Rudnik and CNPEC Deputy Director General Mr Zhang Chibo.

According to the agreement, Mogilev region executive committee will authorize CNPEC to implement projects for the construction of solar panel power generators with the total capacity of at least 300MW in the region till 31 December, 2018 and guarantees assistance in the company’s investment efforts in the Republic of Belarus.

“The signed agreement is the basis for long-term versatile and mutually beneficial cooperation”, Petr Rudnik remarked. “Mogilev region is interested in getting projects involving pure energy implemented as soon as possible”. The investment contract with the Chinese company will be signed in September, 2013; it aims at implementing a pilot project for the construction of a power plant that will use solar panels and will be able to generate 10MW of electricity in the free economic zone Mogilev. There are plans to open a factory in the region to make solar panels by the end of 2015.

Six or seven additional grounds are to be provided to implement the projects that envisage commissioning of solar panel power plants with the capacity of at least 10MW annually till 2018. Mogilev governor suggested setting the ground up in six districts affected by the Chernobyl disaster. “Pure energy is very important for these territories,” the governor assured. “Thorough support will be provided for such projects by the state”.

In turn, Zhang Chibo thanked Mogilev region administration for cooperation in working out possible solutions for implementing the agreement clauses, including future changes of prices for the electricity generated by renewable sources, the utilization of power plant equipment, the development of common safety standards for the facilities to be built, etc.

“Our company aims at promoting better economic relations with Belarus and other countries, rather than money making,” stressed Zhang Chibo. “This is why quality, safety, and partnership are the key values of our work. I am sure that in the near future the bright sun of Mogilev region will generate economic and public profits”.
