Great deeds of our ancestors during the Great Patriotic War are guidelines for next generations. The Soviet people set the example of bravery, courage and self-sacrifice; they managed to dispel the myth of the Nazi Army's invincibility, chairman of Mogilev region executive committee Vladimir Domanevsky told during the festive meeting dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Victory.
We can't but remember all the people who restored Mogilev and other towns of the region, the chairman stressed. When retreating, fascists left cities and towns in ashes. The region had about 40 industrial enterprises before the war. All of them were destroyed to a certain degree; some were removed from the city. The region's citizens deprived themselves of anything to restore dwellings, factories and plants. And they managed to restart such an industrial giant as "Strommashina" in a year.
During the Soviet period Mogilev turned into an industrial centre of an all-Union scale. "Belshina", 'Mogilevkhimvolokno", Mogilevliftmash and many other industrial enterprises supplied their production to all Soviet republics. "We can't discredit this heritage. And we should do our best to let the enterprises work, in spite of all the economic difficulties, Vladimir Domanevsky told.
Mogilev held the solemn meeting dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Victory. War veterans, representatives of the regional and city authorities, representatives of public enterprises and associations partook in the event. They laid flowers to the memorial and paid the tribute to the memory of the war heroes and victims. Theatrical performance took place in Slavy Square.
