Every fourth Belarusian is a young man or woman at the age of 14 - 31, press-secretary of the National Statistics Committee Olga Klavsut informed.

Timed to the International Youth Day the National Statistics Committee counted the young people of the Republic. As of January 2014, the number of young people aged 14 - 31 totalled 2 million 185.2 thousandю The majority of them (24.6%) are the capital's residents; the minority (10.5%) live in Grodno region.

The age group of 25 - 30 years old prevails; it stands for 940,000 people (43% of the total population). The age group of 20 - 24 years old makes up 30.7%; that of 18-19 years old - 9.6%, and there are 16.7% of teenagers at the age of 14-17.

According to the source, most young people prefer urban life - they believe cities and towns offer more chances for self-realization. "83.2% of the Belarusian young people are urban, and only 16.8% are rural. The majority of rural young people (116,000, or 31.6%) live in Minsk region", Olga Klavsut specified.
