One more sugar-refinery plant – the fifth in Belarus – will be built in Bobruisk, - the Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Sergei Sidorski told during today’s visit to OJSC “Zhabinkovski Sugar-Refinery Plant”.
The choice of the region wasn’t accidental: Mogilev region has considerable potential to increase production of sugar-beet. Gomel region is also to grow more sugar-beet. This region often suffers from droughts; that’s why more areas will be used to grow sugar-beet as it is more drought- resistant.
New sugar-refinery plant in Bobruisk will be built within 2-3 years. “Today we have 400-500 tons of sugar-beet surplus each year; our sugar-refinery plants have to prolong sugar-beet processing till 120 days instead of the optimal period of 100 day. It means considerable loses”, - the Prime Minister explained.
New plant is supposed to have capacity of 1.6 – 1.7 mln tons. The founders of new plant are four Belarusian sugar-refinery plants. The head of the Belarusian government added that within the nearest 5 years much work will be done to modernize production process at other plants.
