Belvedere, a French wine and spirits company, is planning to open a wine and cognac distillery in Bobruisk in 2009, Interfax learnt from Bobruisk District Administration.
Representatives of the French company and Mogilev Region Administration had signed the corresponding agreement. They are going to set up a closed joint stock company with a state share of at least 30%, the source specified.
The new winery will premium quality grape wines and Gautier cognacs.
The estimated cost of the project that will be carried out within the coming three years is EUR 6 million.
Belvedere S.A. was founded in France in 1991. It is one of the largest distributors of alcoholic beverages in France and Poland. The company produces Sobieski, Starogradzka, Danzka and Krupnik vodkas, Scottish Leader, William Peel, Sir Pitterson whiskies, Old Lady's gin, Napoleon and Gautier cognacs, Sierra tequila, Marie Brizard liquor, Domain Menada, Sophia, Kadarka, Therga, Jean Pierre Hottinger wines. The company has production facilities in Poland, Lithuania, Bulgaria and France. In February 2008 Belvedere was granted the permission to buy 50% of the authorized fund of Ukraine's Cherkassy Distillery LLC.
