Under the Decree of the BSSR Council of Ministers, Gorki pedagogical school was established 40 years ago, in 1975. Pavel Pavlovich Mamchits who moved to Lenino from Volkovysk became its first director. And Alexander Ephimovich Lukashenko from Loev was appointed the first deputy headmaster for curriculum and discipline.
Six groups of students were moved from Minsk to Lenino and started to study. Entrance exams were taken at Lenino school, where the first teaching block of the pedagogical school was housed in an old building. Students were offered rooms to live in the hostel of one of the construction organisations.
The first graduation took place in 1976, and 88 specialists were qualified as "Teachers of Primary School and Pioneer leaders".
In 2003 Gorki pedagogical school got the status of college. In 2004 it became one of the colleges of Mogilev State Kuleshov University.
The college got an opportunity for conducting scientific and experimental work in cooperation with University teachers and professors, and promoting mutual assistance between the two educational establishments. College students have the chance of taking part in a number of contests held at Mogilev State Kuleshov University ("Miss University", "The Best Future Teacher of the Year", and many more). Lots of college graduates go on studying by correspondence at the University.
The staff of the college makes up 70 specialists. 11 of them are honourary teachers of the Republic of Belarus. 90% of the staff have higher or first qualification categories. After graduation some of the former students of the college started to work there: deputy headmasters N.M. Golushkova and T.V. Khmarskaya, as well as V.A.Vasiliev, A.N.Levitsky, G.M.Andreeva, T.P.Churkina. The staff of the college take active part in compiling teaching materials, write scientific articles for a number of journals, partake in conferences.
