October, 16 Mogilev Regional Executive Committee held a guest session. The participants of the session discussed implementation of the Program of small and middle size settlings development (2007-2010), Gorki district being an example.
According to the governor of Mogilev region Petr Rudnik, the region has all necessary conditions to develop small and middle size settlings; we are able to make people’s lives better. There are facilities to increase production at the existing enterprises, but they are not used properly. There are businesses and crafts that can be profitable but they are poorly managed. Enterprises of small towns are to pay more attention to market potentials that are still vacant.
By today the region has 23 small and middle size settlings with population of about 260,000 people. It makes 23.8% to the total number of Mogilev region’s population. Since the Program began its implementing Gorki Town has made a 4.5-time increase in the number of small-sized enterprises. Br158 bln was invested for the purpose. Over Br17 bln was directed to build a production base and to reconstruct existing production facilities of “Prometei” Company. The company launched production of ferroconcrete parts, concrete, joinery, PVC articles. The enterprise also launched production of mineral water “Goretskaya”.
