Granny’s Jar Joint Stock Company (Babushkina Krynka, Mogilev) has started preliminary preparations for reaching the projected output levels at its Belynichi-based Cheese Factory, company director Igor Kononchuk told Interfax.

By mid summer, when milk production levels soar, the company will be producing 20 tonnes of hard cheeses a day, he explained. In the meantime, in early May they plan to reach a cheese production peak to make sure the production line operates fault-free and in full conformity with technical specifications.

At the moment, the enterprise already produced up to 10 tonnes of fresh hard cheeses a day, he said.

It was in late 2006 that they started producing hard cheeses at one of its branches – the Belynichi-based cheese factory.

The company’s closed cycle production technologies fully meet ISO 9001-2001 standards.

Belynichi is the first premium-class cheese mill in Belarus, fit for using different technologies and release “Dutch”, “Russian”, “Swiss” sorts of cheese.

The enterprise also supplies its dairy products to all regional centres of Belarus, the City of Minsk and other large cities of the country.

In January the enterprise would process some 480 tonnes of milk. In January they produced almost BYR 8 billion worth of commodities, which is 12% up on the year.

At the moment, the company offers 250 kinds of dairy products, including 190 produced under Babushkina Krynka brand (named the best brand of 2004 in its category). That includes 20 kinds of chocolate-grazed cheesy curds under the Merry Grandchildren brand, while products under Life Energy brand are spiced with Bifidobacteria.

Products by Granny’s Jar as well as the entire production cycle complies with international quality management standards.

For instance in December 2006 the company simultaneously introduced three quality management systems at one of its branches – the Belynichi-based cheese factory.

Now the company runs an integrated management system that includes an ISO 14000 environment management system, an HACCP quality control system and an STB 18001 labour security system.

The company’s closed cycle production technologies fully meet ISO 9001-2001 standards.

At the moment the company is expanding the range of premium dairy products sporting ECOLEAN jar-styled package.

The company’s imported facilities has been pouring into clay jars 16 new kinds of yogurts in addition to the traditional line-up of dairy products. The new equipment spits out 23 tonnes an hour of jar-packed dairies. The products are marketed all over Belarus and are an export commodity.

It was in March 2006 that the company started manufacturing and selling dairy products using Ecolean packaging material. A foreign-made production like rolls out 3 tonnes of ECOLEAN-packed milk an hour.

Ecolean has developed a packaging material based on calcium carbonate, also known as chalk, with plastic as binding agent. Ecolean offers functional and efficient packaging materials for foodstuffs, packaging that has as little effect as possible on the environment.

Milk, yoghurts and sour cream come packed in Ecolean jars, which keep the product’s natural taste and extend its shelf life two- or threefold up to 6-10 days.

Besides, Ecolean jars are usable for microwave cooking.

Granny’s Jar has scooped a few major prizes lately at several food shows, including Best Product of Belarus and Best Belarus Products on Russian Market.

Granny’s Jar (formerly known as Mogilev Dairy Factory) was founded in 1975. It was incorporated in 1995. At the moment, the company employs 1,100 people.
