On 27-29 November Mogilev hosts International “Simonovskie Readings” dedicated to the writer’s birthday (28 November). According to the director of Mogilev city Republican public union “Russkoe obschestvo (society)” Ljudmila Volodiko, among the honoured guests are the staff of “Krasnaya zvezda” – the paper where Konstantin Simonov worked, as well as the representatives of the studio of war writers of Moscow.
Mogilev holds sacred Konstantin Simonov’s memory, for he glorified courage and devotion of the city defenders during July of 1941. The writer happened to visit Mogilev during those days, he saw defence leading edge at Buinichy field, where 39 German tanks and armoured cars were knocked out. K. Simonov told about the heroes of that battle in his article “The Hot Day” that was published in “Izvestia” of 20 July, 1941. Later the writer several times wrote about Mogilev defence, he visited Mogilev practically every year and met the soldiers who took part at the battle. Certain characters and their lives were depicted in “The Alive and the Dead”, “"They are not born Soldiers", etc.
