Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko took part in the ceremony of laying a capsule with a message to future generations in the basement of Mogilev City Hall.
"The present generation of Mogilev residents lives in an era of great reforms. Together with the entire nation under the guidance of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko Mogilev is building a strong and prosperous state", reads the message.
As formerly reported by Interfax, Mogilev Council of Deputies voted in favor of the construction of a new city hall building in August. The estimated cost of the project is BYR 4.5 billion. The project is carried out by Promzhilstroi OJSC.
The city hall will be erected exactly where it had been located since 1692. The building was severely damaged during WWII and ruined in 1957. The construction of a new city hall was blessed by archbishop of Mogilev and Mstislavl Maxim in 1992. The construction is expected to be completed by July 1, 2008.
