Belarusian weightlifter Andrei Rybakov of Mogilev has scooped an Olympic silver in Beijing.
In the under-85-kilo weight category Rybakov set a new Olympic record snatching 185 kilos and taking the lead in the weightlifting event. However, in the weight jerking exercise he was overtaken by a Chinese athlete. Although the final total of both the Belarusian and the Chinese athlete was the same, the gold medal went to the latter as Rybakov’s body weight happened to exceed that of the Chinese weightlifter by 400 grams.
Rybakov has been twice the Champion of Europe (2006 and 2007). In Athens in 2004 he also won an Olympic silver.
