The meeting dedicated to the International day of releasing prisoners of Nazi concentration camps was held in Mogilev today. Representatives of the city authority, youth and public organisations, former prisoners of Nazi concentration camps, war veterans gathered by the monument “To Children of the War”.
"April, 11 is one of the memorable days in the lives of those who went through horrible war trials", the chairman of Mogilev regional association of juvenile prisoners of fascism Vladimir Parakhnevich. "This is the day when we celebrate the triumph for peace and justice, as well as mourn for the perished in concentration camps.
Addressing to representatives of young generation, the chairman of the association told: "The rising generation is our future. You are holding in your hands the future of the Belarusian state, and it depends on you if the horrors of the war will recur.
The meeting participants held a moment of silence to commemorate the perished and laid wreaths and flowers to the monument “To Children of the War”.
International day of releasing prisoners of Nazi concentration camps was instituted by the UNESCO in the memory of the international uprising of Buchenwald's prisoners (Germany) on 11 April 11, 1945 when they managed to defeat their torturers.
