According to the Ideology Department of Mogilev Region Executive Committee, a memorial sign to immortalize the patients and staff of Mogilev mental hospital killed by Fascists will be opened on July,2.
In autumn 1941 about 1500 patients, nurses and doctors of the hospital were killed in the mobile gas-chamber.
Germany allotted EUR10 thousand on the monument. Alexander Minkov, a twenty-seven year old sculpture from Mogilev, the winner of the contest, is working at the memorial sign. The monument is going to be a two-meter high black granite stone showing the figure of a man condemned to death and reaching out for the light through the window - reaching out for life.
The sign will be erected on the territory of the regional mental hospital. The initiators of the project were the doctors of Psychiatry Hospital from Heidelberg and G. Hoiendorff, the doctor of Psychiatry of the Institute of Medicine History and Ethics of Munich Technical University. They provided the news-reel with the scenes of killing. The film was used as evidence at Nunberg process.
