Ministry of Public Health: Price rise for medicines still banned in BelarusК

Price rise for medicines is still banned in Belarus, Victor Shein, head of economy and marketing department of pharmaceutical industry of the Ministry of Public Health, told.

"The moratorium is still on. We are keeping the promise not to raise prices for medicines produced in Belarus", he added.

According to the source, not all Belarusians can afford themselves to buy expensive medicines due to current economic situation. "I assure, that only imported medicines could have become more expensive in Belarus.

Production of at least 35 medicines has negative profitability; losses sometimes make up 40%", Victor Shein specified.  "At the same time, they are on offer at the chemist's".

Being answered why some imported medicines are cheaper than their analogues, Belarusian Victor Shein commented on:  "Any manufacturer has the right for damping to enter a country's market. According to the Decree of the State's Head, a foreign manufacturer of medicines may set the price he wants.  By the way, profitability of many foreign drugs is much higher than that of the Belarusian ones.

Besides, competition is high between the Belarusian manufacturers of the same medicines. "By no means the Belarusian manufacturers are monopolists", the source stressed.  Usually a winner of a competitive procurement sells a medicine at domestic market, while the other producer exports the medicine, thus diversifying sales.
