MOGILEV MARKS LENINO BATTLE’S 64th ANNIVERSARY

Mogilev Region has celebrated the 64th anniversary of the battle with fascists under the village of Lenino October 12, Interfax learnt from head of the Ideology Department of the regional administration Alexander Belyatski.

In his words, war veterans from Belarus and Poland met to pray for war victims on the Polish cemetery and by the monument to Soviet warriors. Flowers will be laid to the monuments to Soviet and Polish soldiers and the Unknown warrior. There was held a meeting by the Museum of the Soviet and Polish Commonwealth.

The ceremonies were attended by representatives of Mogilev Region Administration and the Polish Embassy in Belarus, the source specified.

The battle by the village of Lenino took place October 12 1943. 1,700 Soviet soldiers and over 500 Polish warriors perished in the battle. 239 Polish soldiers were decorated with the USSR medals and orders.
