A series of surgeries on a stopped heart has been performed in Mogilev on Wednesday, Professor Viacheslav Yanushko of Cardiology Centre told Interfax-West.
In his words, a group of Cardiology Centre experts have arrived in Mogilev to perform a series of heart bypass surgeries within a few days.
The first few men, all aged 50-53, who underwent heart bypass surgery, are now in the intensive care department and show a good recover progress. But for the operation, they would have been written off as invalids, the professor said.
To keep the patients alive during the operation, they use an artificial circulation machine.
To make stopped heart surgery possible in Mogilev, the local hospital invested around BYR 4 billion in the proper facilities. In particular, the two artificial circulation machines claimed $300,000 each.
