In a bid to raise quality standards, Mogilev Region is determined to complete the upgrade of dairy and meat producing facilities in two years’ time.
Mogilev Region Governor Boris Batura stated that a press conference in Mogilev Friday.
The quality boost is expected to facilitate exports, the governor said.
At present, Mogilev is expecting a delegation of Russian veterinary experts to inspect local meat-packing factories, which hope to get an export licence.
In early 2007 Interfax reported about plans by Rosselkhoznadzor to ban meat exports from Belarus due to repeated violations of Russian veterinary regulations. Russia would accuse Belarus of re-exporting Polish meat. Starting March 2007 Russia would only accept Belarusian meat, dairy and fish products originating from producers certified by Rosselkhoznadzor.
A joint workgroup of Rosselkhoznadzor and Belarus’ veterinary service launched a new series of inspections of Belarusian meat producers in May.
