Mogilev Region invested almost BYR 33 billion in health care in 2007, chief of the regional health care department Valery Malashko reported.
BYR 16.35 billion came from local budgets, and the rest was allotted by the regional budget, the source specified.
Medical institutions based in rural areas received BYR 3.8 billion, of which BYR 1.17 billion was spent on vehicles and BYR 2.63 billion was spent on equipment.
Last year Mogilev Regions ER departments purchased 35 vehicles, 33 electrocardiography apparatuses, 14 defibrillators, 8 reanimation kits and other medical equipment.
The new equipment considerably improved the efficiency of local medical services. In particular, the infant death rate reduced from 5.7% to 3%.
In January-May 2008 the death rate in Mogilev Region shrank by 1.1% on the year.
