The further development of co-operation with Russia stands high on the list of priorities of Mogilev Region, Mogilev Vice Mayor Fedor Mikheyenko said on Monday, opening a solemn meeting dedicated to Russia-Belarus Union Day.
According to the source, last year Mogilev-Russia trade turnover rose by 18% to reach $644 million (export - $394 million). Mogilev trades with 74 Russian regions, he added.
Mogilev Region Administration has concluded around two dozen co-operation contracts with 45 Russian regions. In 2007 the trade turnover between Mogilev Region and the Russian Federation made $1.2 million (export - $700and million).
Most of the exports fell on chemical fibres, plastic, tyres, elevators, engines, agricultural machinery, fabrics, footwear, garments, food.
The most prominent co-operation projects include distribution agreements between Granny's Jar OJSC, Mogilev Gelatin Plant and Russian companies. The recently founded Mogilev Dairy Products LLC JV (Moscow) has 60% of Belarusian capital. In addition, Jockey Plastic Mogilev (based in Mogilev free economic area) has set up a distribution center in Moscow.
Another co-operation project is Belarusian trade center VAO-Mogilev LLC that is being built in Moscow's Eastern Administrative Circuit.
Mogilev Region and adjacent Russian regions also co-operate in the spheres of education, culture, art, sport, tourism, youth programs, the source reported.
