Mogilev-based Obuv OJSC plans to produce 520,000 pairs of children’s footwear in 2008, which will be marketed under Shagovit brand, a company representative told Interfax. The footwear will be available in designer shoe boxes, they said.
Last year the company embarked on a large-scale campaign to upgrade its production facilities. For instance, they have already installed 40 units of sewing machinery and new shoe production lines. The shoe production accessories were imported from Italy, the company officials said.
Obuv produces footwear from natural materials, they added.
It has been reported that Obuv completely abandoned the practice of producing goods on commission in a bid to raise quality standards and improve output.
They plan to distribute around 70% of Shagovit shoes on the home market, the remaining lots to be exported to Russia and Western Europe.
Last year Obuv produced BYR 15.2 billion worth of footwear. Almost 30% of that amount was exported.
