Mogilev has seen the ceremony of sanctifying the cross at the place of the future cathedral in the city’s Grebenevo District, Interfax reports.
ccording to the Department of Religions and Ethnic Affairs of Mogilev Region Administration, it was Bishop of Mogilev and Mstislavl Safroni, who performed the sanctifying ritual on the cross that marks the place of the new church will be built.
The move meets numerous appeals by the local people to build a church in honour of Our Lady of Kazan that protects Mogilev from evil.
At the moment, there are 106 Orthodox Christian parishes in Mogilev Region, performing their services in 83 temples and chapels. Besides, there are another 24 Orthodox Christian churches currently under construction in the region.
