October, 12 Lenino Township holds actions celebrating the 67th anniversary of a battle with fascist invaders. A delegation from Poland takes part in it. The information is provided by Valery Iliyenkov, the chief of the Ideology Department of Mogilev Regional Executive Committee.
The program includes meetings of Belarusian and Polish war veterans, services for the dead at the Polish soldiers’ cemetery, wreath-laying ceremony to the monuments of Soviet and Polish soldiers, the monument to Unknown Soldier, the museum of Soviet and Polish battle cooperation and other events.
Valery Iliyenkov reminded that Lenino Township has got a memorial complex which is a symbol of Belarusian and Polish battle cooperation. October, 12 1943 Polish division named after Tadeusz Kościuszko being a part of the 33d Western Front Army entered the battle with Fascist invaders. The division was formed by Polish soldiers and armed with Soviet guns.
239 Polish soldiers were awarded for courage and heroism with 239 Soviet and 247 Polish orders and medals. The Common Graves by Lenino Township buried 1,711 Soviet soldiers and 502 Polish ones. Lenino Township was the beginning of a victory march to Warsaw, to Berlin.
