Osipovichi Railway Car Shop JV is expected to reach the design capacity by 2010, Director of the Belarusian Railways Vladimir Zherelo told a news conference in Minsk.
In his words, the enterprise is expected to make 2,000 tank containers, 2,500 cargo carriages and repair 2,000 carriages a year.
Osipovichi Railway Car Shop is forming an authorized fund, 26% of which will belong to the Belarusian Railways and 74% - to Russian Grand-Express CJSC.
The company is implementing an investment project ($130 million).
According to the source, currently most of the railways of the post-Soviet states lack carriages. Their annual demand is 700,000 rail cars, while the yearly capacity of the enterprises based in those states makes only 500,000 units. That is why the products of Osipovichi and Mogilev rail car plants will enjoy a great demand both in Belarus and in the CIS, the director believes.
In 2007 the Belarusian Railways purchased 1,236 freight carriages, 16 passenger carriages and five diesel trains. This year the enterprise is planning to buy 42 passenger cars, over 1,000 tanks, five locomotives and four diesel trains.
