Private entrepreneurs and private business in general plays an important role in the economic development of Mogilev Region, Vice Governor Vladimir Kravtsov stated at the ceremony of presenting awards at
the contest “Best Businessman of the Year 2006”.
Last year private business’ contribution to the regional economy stood at 19.5%, which is 27 percentage points up on the year.
The ceremony of presenting awards was held on Tuesday in the local drama theatre, prizes being handed by Vice Governor Vladimir Kravtsov in person.
As reported by Deputy Head of the Entrepreneurship Department of the region administration Olga Yashina, last year they provided BYR 528 million in support funds for private business within the framework of the State Programme for Small Business Development in Mogilev for 2006.
According to Yashina, there are 2,680 commercial entities in the region (6.2% up against January 1 2006), 21,928 individual entrepreneurs (5.1% up), and 280 farmers.
The source informed, in 2006 private business created 6,870 new jobs.
winners and laureates of the contest were recognised in 18 nominations, including production of industrial and consumer goods, foodstuffs, construction, agriculture, and other commercial activities. Winners were named taking into account production growth figures, new jobs created, tax payment growth, and other parameters.
Contest winners were awarded with valuable prizes and diplomas.
