The share of private carriers in bus transportation made 16.3% in January-August, the region’s transport authority told Interfax.
Private carriers transported 16 million passengers in January-August, thus bringing their passenger turnover to 106.4 million passengers per kilometer (17.4%).
Bus passenger transportation stands at 82 million, 85.1% compared to last year’s figures.
The attribute the drop in passenger traffic to scrapping preferences for students and old-age persons.
Over January-August 2008 transport companies of Mogilev Region shipped almost 34.6 million tones of cargoes, 5.3% up on the year. That includes railway deliveries – 29.6 million tonnes (4.8% up), motorway transport – 4.9 million tonnes (8.3% up).
n January-July 2008 the net profit of transport companies based in Mogilev Region grew 25.6% on the year to reach BYR 16,600 million.
