Mogilev Region's public transport companies handled 12.2 million tonnes of cargoes in Q1 2008, or 8.8% up on the year, Interfax learnt from the Department of Transport and Communications of the regional administration.
Local railways transported 10.9 million tonnes of cargoes (8.7% up), while automobiles handled 1.3 million tonnes of freight (9% up).
Mogilev Region's cargo turnover grew 5% to reach 1,414.1 million tons per kilometer.
In January-March 2008 automobiles transported 41.1 million passengers (12.3% up). The rate of transportation of passengers by bus shrank by 6.9% (34.4 million passengers).
Mogilev Region's railways transported 2.6 million passengers (11.6% down).
The passenger turnover of public transport totaled 445.3 million passengers per kilometer (11.2% down).
