Today Mogilev holds the sitting to discuss organization and improvement of social services provided for the elderly by Mogilev’s area social service centres. The participants of the event get acquainted with the experience of the regional centre, new forms and methods of work.
The sitting started at the social service centre of Leninsky housing area. Alexander Rumak, deputy Minister for Labour and Social Security, greeted the participants. Valery Malashko, deputy head of Mogilev regional executive committee, and Svetlana Tarasenko, chairman of Mogilev regional committee for labour, employment and social security, also took part in the event.
According to Alexander Rumak, the national social security system covers all categories of the population. The centres statistics estimate 1.8 m people registered.
In his words, one of the directions of social services is work with the elderly. Belarus has got over 80 centres of the kind and the work in this field keeps going. The elderly come to these centres to communicate with each other, to get medical and social services. The centres hels them be socially active: to do arts, volunteering, to study languages.
Svetlana Tarasenko, chairman of Mogilev regional committee for labour, employment and social security, says that the departments of day-time stay for the elderly are in demand with them. But the region has got only 10 departments of the type. It is expected that every district will get such a department soon. By the way, the proportion of the elderly in Mogilev region makes 25% percent to the total population number. 39% of the elderly are in need of various services and assistance.
