September,22 2009the Republic of Belarus holds the annual international action "Car Free Day". The action is aimed to attract people's attention to ecological problems, to decrease air pollution caused by car smokes and to improve habitation conditions. The information is provided by Mogilev Regional Committee for Nature Resources and Environmental Protection.
Though motor transport sector is an important branch of the economy that satisfies our needs for transportation it is one of the main environmental pollutants. On republican scale, automobiles release 72% of all polluting gases (it makes 65-80% in towns), the gases causing a green house effect make 10%. On average 3300 tons of polluting gases are daily released in the atmosphere in the republic.
Mogilev Regional Committee for Nature Resources and Environmental Protection appeals to all the citizens of Mogilev region to take part in the action, leave their cars at the parking lots and make their contribution to the city environment.
