Shklov to sign a hymn in praise of a cucumber

Shklov held the Day of a cucumber. For the first time Shklov, a cucumber capital, celebrated this day in 2006. Almost all Shklov citizens grow cucumbers. In 2007 the town installed a monument to a cucumber. The monument became the centre of celebrations that started with a dramatized show. Then Shklov citizens and guests sang a hymn in praise of a cucumber to Glinka’s tune «Be glorious!». During the performance anyone could taste cucumber slices with honey.

Celebrations continued with a crowded fair. The participants shared their traditional cucumber recipe: cutlets, pizza and even a cake.

The jury consisting of local authority representatives chose the best participants taking into consideration taste and look.

The event also included performances of amateur art activities.
