Alexandriyskoye OJSC of Shklov District has started planting saplings in its new apple orchard, company director Viktor Diurd told Interfax.
The new orchard will grow on a territory of 162 ha. They are now planting winter grade apple trees imported from Poland, which produce apples with a perfect taste and excellent storage qualities. Picked in October, those apples stay fresh, firm and tasty till May next year, the expert explained.
Those will be dwarf apple trees, producing first apples the next year. It will only take 5-6 years to see apple yield reach its peak, which is estimated at 40-50 tonnes of apples per ha.
The orchard’s estimated business life is 15 years.
It is worth mentioning that the orchard pays back the funds invested in three years’ time, the expert informed.
