Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral (Transfiguration Cathedral) consecrated in Mogilev

Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral (Transfiguration Cathedral) in Mogilev was solemnly consecrated today. Partaken in the festive ceremony timed to the memorial day of St.Georgy Konissky were representatives of the city and region authorities, clergymen, and Mogilev citizens.

The consecration was done by Metropolitan Pavel of Minsk and Slutsk, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus. Then followed divine liturgy.

Consecration of Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral (Transfiguration Cathedral) has become a significant event for believers. The issue became a topical one in the mid 90-ies, as far as there were no Orthodox churches in Oktyabrsky city area. The foundation of the Cathedral was laid in June of 2001. The construction was donated by the city enterprises and organisations, Mogilev city executive committee, and naturally by believers.

The Cathedral located in Zadneprovie is spacious enough for 3500 people. It is 51 m long, 33 m wide and 60 m high and is likely to be the largest in Belarus.
