Bobruisk-based Syabar Brewing Company (part of Heineken group) has launched the licensed production of Doctor Diesel beer, a company representative told Interfax.
The production of the new kind of beer will enable Belarus to cut beer imports. In H1 2008 the share of imported beer in the country was 4.33%, reads the company's press release.
Doctor Diesel will be sold in 0.5-litre glass bottle with a twist-off cap and in plastic bottles with a capacity of 1 and 2 litres.
Doctor Diesel brand was originally launched by Ivan Taranov Breweries holding in 1998 in Russia's Kaliningrad. Heineken has been dealing with this premium brand since 2005.
Syabar Brewery CJSC JV (previously known as Belarusian Brewery CJSC JV) was registered in February 2004. The company was set up by Detroit-Belarus Brewing Company LLC (DBB Company), whose founders are American investment group Detroit Investment Ltd. and the International Finance Corporation, and Dednovo OJSC (Bobruisk, Mogilev Region).
In December 2007 Heineken N.V. announced the acquisition of the Cypriot holding company of the Syabar Brewery.
Syabar owns two beer brands - Bobrov and Syabar.
According to Belarusian food industry concern Belgospischeprom, in January-September 2008 the company produced 4.083 million decalitres of beer, or 7.1% down on the year. Syabar's share of the Belarusian beer market shrank to 14.2% from 16% in January-September 2007.
