Mobile Digital Communication Company (Velcom) has opened a fourth service centre in Mogilev, Interfax learnt from the company's press service.
The centre is located on the premises of Hippo hypermarket (6, Movchanski Street).
The city already has 21 VELCOME dealers, the source added. Local VELCOME subscribers have at their disposal an entire range of services rendered by the company.
VELCOM communication has been available in Mogilev since 2000. The company's network covers 89.6% of the territory of Mogilev Region. There are 212 base stations in Mogilev Region, including 94 in the city of Mogilev.
The company has 44 service centres in Belarusian cities.
Mobile Digital Communications Belarusian-Cypriot joint venture (MDC, VELCOMTM) was set up in July 1998 by Cypriot company SB-Telecom (49%), Belarusian Beltelecom Corporation (31%) and Beltechexport CJSC (20%). In August 1998, the company obtained a ten-year license to design, build, and exploit a GSM-900 national cellular communication network. In December 2002 the company was licensed for designing a GSM-1800 network.
On August 22 2007 the company was transformed into a foreign unitary enterprise. Today Mobile Digital Communications is an official representative of Globarstar in Belarus (VELCOM and PRIVET trade marks).
In 2007 the number of VELCOM subscribers expanded by 17.5% (445,000) to reach 3.055 million.
