Belynichi District

Belynichi district is located in the north-west of Mogilev region. It was formed on July 17, 1924. It occupies an area of 1.4 thousand square km. The population of the district is 28.1 thousand people, 37.2% live in towns. The average population density is 20 people per one sq. km. There is a town-type settlement of Belynichi (the centre of the district), 199 village settlements, and 8 village councils (Vishovski, Golovchinski, Zapolski, Lankovki, Lebediankovski, Moschenitski, Tekhtinski and Esmonski) in the district.

Belynichi district is located within the limits of Central Berezina and Orsha-Mogilev plains. The surface is flat with numerous hills. The territory is located at 160-180 m above sea level, the highest point (207 m) is situated near the village of Yasnaya Poliana.

Natural resources: peat, sapropels, silicate sands and clays

January's average temperature is minus 7.3 C, June's average temperature - plus 18 C. Annual precipitation equals 657 millimeters. Vegetative period lasts 187 days.

Major rivers: the Druts (including tributaries: Vabich, Neroplia, Malysh and Lipovka; Oslik) and the Kliava. Lakes: Lake Black (Chornoye), Zaoziorskoye, Neroplia, Podoziorische, and Karmanovskoye.

The prevailing soil type is sod-podzol, sod-podzol marsh, sod and marsh. Forests grow on 30.7% of the territory, the major tree species being conifers and birch.

Marshes occupy 7.2% of the territory. There is a hydrological reserve Zaozior'e (The Lake Land) in the district.

The total area of agricultural land equals 65.9 thousand hectares, 14.1 thousand of which is drained marshes. Agricultural producers specialise in milk and meat cattle breeding, pig breeding, poultry keeping, grain and forage crops, potatoes.

The principal industry branches are food and construction materials production, wood working industry.

Mogiliov-Osipovichi railway line and Minsk-Mogiliov and Belynichi-Shklov motorways lie across the district.

12 secondary, 5 nine-year and 10 elementary schools, an arts school, 21 kindergartens, 28 clubs, 29 libraries, 6 hospitals, 2 out-patient hospitals, and 18 first aid centers function in the district. Besides, there are two museums - the artistic museum of Grand Duke Birulia of Belynichi and a local history museum.
