The preliminary vote in the election to the Chamber of Representatives of the Parliament of Belarus has started on Tuesday.

At 10:00 over 6,400 voting stations all over Belarus started operating in the wait for early voters, the Central Electoral Commission told Interfax-West.

Those willing to cast their ballots before Sunday are invited to do so at 10:00-14:00 and 16:00-19:00.

Those wishing to vote early do not have to have an officially verified excuse to cast their ballots on days other than Sunday, September 28.

In the 2004 parliamentary election 17.6% of the electorate took part in the early vote, including 23% in Minsk.

There are around 270 contenders competing for 110 seats in the lower chamber of Belarus’ parliament.
