Investment Forums are an effective way to communicate with an investor, reckons Georgi Badei, Board Chairman of the Kuniavski Businessmen Union
"Considering the whole world uses that practice to draw investments, investment forums are positively effective," Badei told Interfax-West.
At the same time, the expert believes Belarus is still far from exploiting the entire investment-drawing potential an investment forum has to offer. "It is true that a few years ago Minsk hosted an investment forum, but it could hardly be called a successful attempt," Badei said. In his words, top government officials would tell the gathering that Belarus did not need foreign investment, so the government would adopt a very selective approach to investors and their money.
However, in the ideal world investment forums should be based on genuine wish to attract investors, disguised as well-articulated investment offers.
A good example of such practices is the International Investment Forum held on alternate years in Mogilev. "We took part in the 2006 event, which offered a panoramic view of the region's investment potential with well-planned investment projects", Badei said.
One of the special features of Mogilev Investment Forum offers this year is An Investor's Guide to Mogilev Region - a comprehensive reference book produced by the Kuniavski Businessmen Union.
The 4th international investment forum called "Mogilev Region - the Land of Open Co-operation" will be held October 9-10.
Within the framework of the forum they will organize a presentation of Mogilev Region's investment projects. Forum participants will be given the opportunity to know more about the business climate in the region, its business legislation and real estate for sale or rent.
Forum organizers encourage forum participants to sign up for different thematic sections: small towns, architecture and construction, agriculture and processing industries.
The forum has been designed to give plenty of room for business talks and meetings.
Within the framework of the forum, one is free to tour production and welfare facilities, meet local business representatives, attend an exhibition of Mogilev export companies.
Representatives of several international banks, European business organizations, foreign chambers of commerce and industry and Belarusian authorities are expected to partake in the forum.
