Klichev district is located in the south-east of Mogilev region. It was formed on July 17, 1924, eliminated on December 25, 1962 and re-established on January 6, 1965. It occupies an area of 1.8 thousand square km. The population of the district is 23.2 thousand people, 37.1% of which live in towns. The average population density is 13 people per one sq. km. There is a town-type settlement of Klichev (the centre of the district), 140 village settlements and 8 village councils (Oktyabr, Batsevichi, Virkovo, Gonchany, Dolgovo, Kovbchany, Nesyata, Patoka) in the district.
The territory of the district is located within the Central Berezina plain. It is mostly flat. The average altitude is 150-165 m above sea level, the highest point (176 m) is situated in the north-west near the village of Dubno.
Natural resources: peat, sand, clay and loam for coarse ceramics.
January's average temperature is minus 7.2 C, June's average temperature - plus 17.8 C. Annual precipitation equals 618 millimeters. Vegetative period lasts 190 days.
The river Olsa with its tributaries the Neseta (with the Gorodechenka and the Turchanka), the Terebol, the Sushenka, the Gonchanka, the Susha (with the Peresopenka) and the Kostrichka flow through the district from the north to the south. In the north-east flows the Druts with the Dovzhanka, in the west - the Berezina. The lakes Tanek, Dubovets, Orlinskoye are located in the district alongside with the Orekhovka reservoir on the river Neseta.
The prevailing soil type is sod-podzol (53%), sod-podzol marsh (21.7%), peatbog marsh (16.2%). Forests make up 57.7% of the territory, 17.5% of which are man-planted. Dense forest masses prevail in the north, the largest is Bolshoye Dubolevo. The main tree species are conifers, birch and alder. The forests are partly water-logged. Marshes occupy 4.2% of the territory, the largest marsh areas are Gonchanskoye, Vonkovshchina and Zapolye.
Klichev district natural sights include an oak and hornbeam forest in the Berdovo forestry, an oak forest in the Batsevichi forestry, water springs in the villages of Batsevichi and Yadrenaya Sloboda.
The total area of agricultural land equals 59 thousand hectares, 19.2 thousand of which is drained land. Agricultural producers specialise in milk and meat cattle breeding, grain and forage crops.
The principal industry branches are food and construction materials production, wood working, fuel and timber industry.
There is Osipovichi - Mogilev railway and highways from Klichev to Berezino, Bobruisk and Mogilev in the district. Navigation is possible on the Berezina.
12 secondary, 7 nine-year and 7 elementary schools, 1 sports, 1 art and 7 music schools, a college, 17 kindergartens, 23 clubs, 26 libraries, 5 hospitals, a polyclinic, a center for epidemiology and hygiene and 19 medical centers function on the territory of the district.
