The overcoming of Chernobyl consequences took Mogilev Region BYR 76 billion in 2006, Interfax learned from the Chernobyl department of the region administration. Fixed-capital investments into housing construction made BYR 19.8 billion, protective measures in agriculture – BYR 26.9 billion, burial and deactivation – BYR 2.8 billion. According to the source, as many as 18,800 people were sent for health rehabilitation, of which 17,300 were children and teenagers. Those from Chernobyl areas received BYR 8.9 million in benefits.
BYR 11.5 billion has been dispersed in compensations to people affected by the Chernobyl accident and free lunches to schoolchildren – BYR 8 billion. The source informed, in 2004 the presidential decree #16 issued in 12.07.2002 released BYR 6.3 billion for purchasing medical equipment in Chernobyl-affected areas.
