The net profit of Mogilev Region transport companies rose 2.1-fold on the year in January-March 2008 to BYR 7.95 billion, Interfax learnt from the Department of Transport and Communications of the regional administration.
However, eleven transport companies based in Mogilev Region (9.6% of their total number) ended the period with a net loss of BYR 872 million.
In January-April 2008 Mogilev Region's public transport handled 16.6 million tones of cargoes, or 8.1% up on the year.
Rail freightage totaled 14.7 million tones, or 7.5% up.
Automobile transport handled 1.8 million tonnes of cargoes, or 12.8% up on the year.
The region's cargo turnover grew 5% to reach 1,414.1 million tones per kilometer.
In January-April 2008 local transport companies rendered transport services to 56.9 million passengers, or 13.2% down.
