The net profit of Mogilev Region transport companies rose by 75.5% on the year in January 2008 to BYR 1.5 billion, Interfax learnt from the Department of Transport and Communications of the regional administration.
However, thirteen transport companies based in Mogilev Region (11.3% of their total number) ended the period with a net loss of BYR 455 million.
In January-February 2008 Mogilev Region automobile transport handled 870.3 thousand tonnes of cargoes, or 9.7% up on the year. Rail freightage totaled 6.993 tonnes (7.8% up).
The rate of passenger transportation by bus declined by 6.6% (22.8 million passengers, including 4.6 million transported by private carriers).
